2020 Year in Review
Hey y'all! If I'm Windows XP then it's been a second since I was last doing much here. I know, and if you've been here before, then I'm sure you know that 2020 was actually super cool for me. I made a post on Facebook outlining everything cool I did. I'm going to reference that and recreate it here for documentation purposes. Let's get started.
When the year started, I drew this Grookey on my whiteboard to celebrate the new year. He ended up being the center of all my accomplishments as the year went on. I have now changed the drawing, maybe it'll be seen next year with another review. This was the end result of my whiteboard.
The first thing to kickstart the year was Mother 4 getting a trailer and officially being changed to Oddity. I was so excited, the very night I found that out I put the trailer on repeat in our living and cracked open a case of beer. I was alone at first, but as the night went on our whole household got in on it with me and it was a lot of fun, even if they don't care about Mother. At the end of 2019, I started documenting my life more, leading up to the creation of this blog. But, before that, I decided to start a list of ever game I've ever played. In almost no time, I not only did that, but I also listed every console I played each game on, what year I played it, how much I completed it, and a whole description for my experience for each game. It's insane that I was able to do this so easily, and I will always add to it. In 2020, I played Animal Crossing NH, Doom 64, Pokemon Black, Pokemon Platinum, Mother, Bioshock, Nier: Automata, and a lot of World of Warcraft at the end there. Not too bad if I say so myself, considering all the other stuff I did. By the end of the year I was at about 445 games.
The next thing I did to add to my documentation was writing a book. It's not very long, being just shy of 50 pages, but it is decent. I compiled all my knowledge from playing video games in my life into an informational book about just about every aspect of creating a game. It was a lot of work, and although I still need to add the finishing touches, I think it came out very good. At the time I thought that it was good enough that if I was ever going to make a game, this would be my outline.
Naturally, that led to my next project. I have spent a good chunk of 2020 thinking about and working on a game of my own. Of course, it will promote ideals of love and justice, such as its inspirations. I've created a good amount of the main characters, the story has been coming along, and recently I've been working on figuring out how color palettes work and how to apply them to the design of my game. Maybe eventually I'll document some of my work on it, but for now everything is in a binder as I slowly work on it by hand. I don't know if anything will ever come this, but it's nice to think that I'm working towards something that I can apply my knowledge to and maybe leave behind as my legacy or something.
After all that, I just happened to come across a listing for something that meant a whole lot to me. It was a complete Pikachu N64 bundle with the Charmander c-watch. It was about a grand, but thanks to my mom I was able to pay it off to her over 6 months. When I was very little my siblings and I had this same console. I absolutely loved Hey you, Pikachu! And, although I never saw it work, the Charmander c-watch was really nice. Us being little kids, it wasn't long before we destroyed that console. The watch also disappeared as time went on and we moved a countless number of times. But it was okay, because I finally have it all back again.
It was after this that I decided I had to take pictures of my new console and post it somewhere for it to be documented. I was surprised to find that there's no real easy way to get images to show up on google images, except for highly searched images on blogs! So, that's where this blog came from. I have shared my N64 post on reddit quite a few times and now, if you search on google something along the lines of "Pokemon c watch" my posts do show up! That's all I really wanted, so mission accomplished!
I was randomly given this old Dell tower from my Mom. It was sitting in their garage for a while. At this point, I was unsure of what to do with it. It had almost no storage and crap specs, so it just sat in our living room for a while until I figured it out. My roommate bet me that it wouldn't be able to handle being a server so I said bullshit. I put Windows 7 on it, got an external hard drive, and set up plex on it. It is now my own personal streaming service that I can give anyone access to anywhere. At the time, I only had 4tb, I have now upgraded it to a 6tb internal drive and the 4th external if I ever need it. I use this thing ever day, seriously a great idea to do this.
Here is where things got really exciting... after a couple months of planning, I took a solo road trip to the east coast! I won't detail it here because I already documented it all, but it was by far the most exciting thing I've done in years and I'm looking forward to doing something similar again in the future.
It's just over halfway through the year now, and things were starting to slow down. I had no more projects I needed to complete for my blog and nothing left to plan. I kicked back for about a month and just worked until the perfect opportunity came, completely changing my current way of living. At the time, I was a delivery driver for a crappy bar place. I was washing dishes and doing other busy work more than delivering and it just wasn't worth it. I was really missing guitar hero at the time. Getting robbed sucked, and although the cops were able to arrest all 3 people involved, we didn't get any of our stuff back. I was looking into getting a modded xbox 360 of my own because I had no idea where to start with modding one myself. This leads us to the new business adventure.
I used like, all of my credit (lol) buying tools and supplies and created my ideal work station for repairing and modding. I managed to find a good deal for 2 Trinity consoles and, with a lot of research and help, was able to get them modded. Since then I purchased and modded many more consoles, learned much more about them and how to make money off it, and have created my perfect xbox 360. I have one for myself and one for party games in our living room. We also now have a complete Rock Band set so now we're really doing great. This business allowed me to quit my side job and completely devote myself to modding and repairs. I love it.
This has been the biggest focus of the second half of 2020, but there were some things I did/acquired in the meantime. I got an Xbox one X with 3 years of gamepass. Ever since buying the N64, I've been looking for all of the c-watches. For starters, a family member texted me one day saying he found something in storage and it was MY OLD CHARMANDER C-WATCH! My mind was blown. Now I have a new one and my original! Anyway, I was actively looking for these things for months and have managed to get all of them before the year was over! Even the Butterfree one, which isn't even documented to exist anywhere?? I literally couldn't find a single thing mentioning it. Here is my shrine.
I bought a few other things too. I got a few vinyls, like the Grandia limited edition set, KKB Bugsnaxx, Mother. I got a PC so I can do more work and play games better. Shadowlands has been cool. I got the raffle Bowser EX statue from F4F. That was definitely a momentous occasion for me, I've never won anything. Plus, the thing is absolutely badass. My mom reunited me with a Really Rosie doll she found in a complete set. Chicken Soup With Rice means a lot to me and her. That's about it. This isn't a post about 2021 so although it is a bit in the year you'll have to wait to know if I'm up to anything of importance. 2020 was totally amazing. People bitch that it sucked because we couldn't really go anywhere and, you know, it's scary getting or knowing someone with COVID, but that didn't stop me. I still managed to travel across the country and didn't contract anything. I successfully went through all of 2020 without getting COVID, nice. With that, stay healthy everyone, see you in the next post.
